Name: "Jack Harkness," originally Javic Piotr Thane
Canon: Doctor Who
Canon point: The end of series 12 episode "Revolution of the Daleks"
Age: Over 2000 years old at least.
History: Wiki
Personality:
+ Charismatic - Jack Harkness is a charming, chattery, extroverted, personable, and friendly human being who makes connections easily. It is an ongoing joke in his world that people are immediately taken in by him, either because of his flirty introductions or by his general positive energy. He appears to be humorous and light-hearted and has even made enemies hesitate with a smile and a wink. Jack has gotten out of several bad situations from his charm alone. He is a skilled conman still, albeit one with slightly more noble intentions now, but if you want someone tricky and willing to bend rules, and get away with it too, look no further.
+ Brave - Even before Jack became immortal, he was daring and bold and threw himself into situations. He once joked with the Doctor that he made him less of a coward, but there is evidence to the contrary earlier in Jack's life that he was always ready to jump into a fight or to get things done. He's smart about it, that's all, but generally, Jack has faced down a lot of scary situations and terrifying villains with a hard spine and some mocking foolhardy words. After a lot of losses and deaths, he still keeps fighting. His intention is to make the worlds he goes through better, but it doesn't always work out that way.
+ Shrewd - Why he may have come off as a coward before is that Jack is fairly good at judging a situation and what risks are worth taking and what risks are not. He has run away several times when it seems smarter to regroup rather than fight to the end. He is skilled at reading people and reacting to unexpected situations with a sharp mind and quick reflexes. While he may not always make the right decisions, his old mind is wise and he usually has good reasons for what he chooses to do.
- Deceptive - Some mysteries are good, but not always in Jack's case. Jack has lived a very long life and has done things that he is not proud of, but he does not share a lot of this with other people. It often frustrated his friends and coworkers that they never could quite get under his hard emotional shell. He is quicker to laugh things off or never quite tell the truth, skirting around answers about what he's done or where he's from. No one truly knows the real man behind Jack Harkness, outside of the man himself, and he purposely likes to keep it that way. It makes him hard to trust even by people who love him, and for good reason, because he'll make decisions for others and never explain why, if he doesn't want to. He likes being seen as a mysterious figure and never having to tell anyone the truth of his life. Part of that is because of his fears about who he is and how people would see him if the truth came out.
- Self-Loathing - The unfortunate thing about being very aware of who he is and everything he's done in his long life is that it means he can't be in denial or fool himself. He doesn't lie to himself that he is a good man or did only the things he had to. Jack has made many bad choices that have cost people lives, people that he loved. He let go of his brother's hand when they were children, leading to Gray's long time torture and turn into a sociopathic murderer which came back to haunt him later. He's been a coward, he's looked out only for number one, he's killed hundreds of people, and he knows he will continue to do so if he feels he has to. He's been tortured for decades, died many times, and had to keep living on despite all that. Jack holds back from people because he is certain if they knew everything about him, all his mistakes, they would hate him, and rightfully so.
- Ruthless - Jack Harkness chose his own grandson to die to stop the 456. If he could have used another child, he would, but that is the kind of ruthless he is. If someone has to make cold and cruel decisions to save lives, but don't want to get their hands dirty, Jack is the one who will do it for them. He's been doing it for centuries, making the dark choices other people will not or cannot, and he has suffered loss after loss because of it. He prefers to do these horrible things in secret so he does not have to cope with people around him knowing, but it won't stop him from making them publicly if he has to. He feels shame and regret, but he will never stop doing what he thinks must be done.
Powers/Abilities: Jack has 51st-century pheromones that for some reason make him appealing and attractive to others as soon as they breathe them in.
Jack's main supernatural abilities are immortality and health regeneration. No matter what happens to him, Jack comes back to life, it is more of a curse instead of a blessing to him. He has been able to come back to life with his body parts scattered around, regenerating limbs and his body fairly quickly. He was tortured for years in different ways and still kept coming back. Radiation, poison, none of it can stop him. The sad part is he still feels pain no matter what; dying various times has never stopped it from hurting or damaging him. It's terrible every time.
NOTE: I understand from the FAQ that in the game orb-related mission deaths are permanent! So Jack's immortality and advanced regeneration would only happen in non-mission situations.
Outside of that, Jack is in excellent physical form and he is an expert in a variety of weapons, all kinds of guns from different points in history, blades, and hundreds of years of experience with combat. He has been a war strategist many times and a leader of Torchwood and other organizations. He has a lot of historical knowledge and memory both from research and from living through it. He has knowledge of many alien species from his world and how to fight/kill them. He has advanced technology expertise from living in the 51st century and knows how to modify technology and hack into it.
Regret: His first experience with the 456 where he willingly made a deal with them in 1965 to trade twelve children in exchange for the cure to a fatal flu. While at the time it seemed worth it to save millions, it led to their return now hooked on children as drugs, and that led to the death of his grandson Steven and his lover Ianto. Some part of him thinks if that deal was never made, they would be alive now.
Suitability: Jack is a man of action and he is a natural-born leader. He is not someone who will stay behind or let other people do things, he'll throw himself right into a situation. He is not afraid to get his hands dirty or make the hard decisions, even if they're unpopular. He is very old and a skilled diplomat so he doesn't mind talking things out first, but if he has to fire a blaster, he'll fire a blaster. Due to the fact Jack is old and essentially immortal (outside of quests here), he is not afraid to die for a cause, even if he finds out that it will be a permanent death. Overturning his regret would save the life of his lover and his grandson (theoretically), and there is not much he wouldn't do to reverse that choice he made. Jack is very smart and has a lot of knowledge about future technology and how to use it, and he's adaptable on missions. Jack is also very charming and can usually talk people into thinking his way if given the chance. While his absolute loyalty to the Doctor has been unshakeable until now, it might be the situation to shake it.
Inventory: His famous coat, current clothes, and his vortex manipulator he wears on his wrist at all times. His manipulator can no longer help him move throughout time at all, but it can be used to teleport him and others around. Let me know if limitations need to happen on that!
Sample: 1 with Owen, and from my TDM TL 12th Doctor, and one with River
